Yaocho (defined for Goldie)
Yaocho mean "fixed game". It is meant to imply that one of the rikishi has
agreed to lose the match in return for favours to be granted in the future
and/or favours granted in the past.
One hypothetical example often mentioned.
A 7-7 rikishi needs to get his eighth win to make kachi-koshi. If the other
rikishi is already kachi-koshi (or even make-koshi), the other rikishi will
not put up his best effort, easily giving the 7-7 rikishi his kachi-koshi.
In the future, if the opportunity presents itself, the losing rikishi will
get some favours (easy wins) in return.
A search of yaocho in the archives will yield 173 hits (and interesting
reading of what has been discussed in the past on this issue).
Hope that helps.
