For those of you who may not be familiar with Daishoho, here is an excerpt
from the July issue of Sumo World:
" Former Komosubi Daishoho announced his retirement June 11 after being
sidelined last month ...with a chronic pancreas inflammation and falling
to..Makushita...for the Nagoya basho. He will remain in sumo for at least 2
years as a jun-toshiyori. The 32 yr old veteran, who was twice ranked
komosubi in March '95 and...July '96, had a Makunouchi record of 221-283-11 in
34 basho for a winning percentage of .438. He fell to Juryo in March'97
following a knee injury. In fact, his career was riddled with injuries,
primarily knee injuries."
From other stats: his last basho was fought at Juryo 10E position. Heya -
Tatsunami. He hails from Hokkaido, entered sumo in January 1990. At
the Natsu basho he weighed 313 lbs and stood at 6'1".
It is very disturbing to me that when I finally do make a meaningful
contribution to this list, it has to be on a "down" tone.
P.S. What is a "jun-toshiyori?
