Now that it seems to be public knowledge, I will say that , while I was in
Tokyo, I learned that his danpatsu-shiki  was moved up from very early next
year because of the seriousness of the malady and the fear that he would not
live to participate in January. Apparently, he is declining swiftly,
notwithstanding his Mom's brave "public" face.
I might add, I was EXTREMELY saddened by this news. It is pancreatic cancer
which, as Robanoumi wrote, is usually fatal in 90% of cases within the first
year of diagnosis.
