Re: [SUMO] Asashoryu
Konishiki spent only 6 basho, Tochiazuma (Shiga) 7 basho, and Musashimaru 10
basho, since they first appeared on a banzuke in Jonokuchi before promoted to
Juryo.
Those are the significantly fast promotions in recent years among the rikishi
started from the very bottom.
For Asashoryu to beat Konishiki's record, he needs to be ranked among the top 30
rikishi in Makushita for Kyushu-basho in November and have a perfect 7-0 records
to be promoted to Juryo for Hatsu-basho in the year of 2000.
With his Aki-basho record, I don't think he will be ranked among the top 30
rikishi in Makushita for Kyushu-basho. He will be ranked probably around
Makushita 25-maime. If that is the case, he won't be promoted to Juryo, even if
he has a perfect 7-0 record in Kyushu-basho. Only a rikishi with a perfect
record will be guaranteed to be promoted to Juryo, if he is among the top 30
rikishi in Makushita.
So, the best case he could make would be to tie the Konishiki's record of 6
basho before promoted to Juryo. We'll see how Asashoryu perform the next two
basho.
