They are more commonly called 'shide' rather than 'gohei' (tho' gohei is
quite correct) and the number is always five. Ken's right about the odd
number.

In the last 20 years the number has more commonly been reduced to 13-15.
Nearly all the books of information are based on what was written over two
decades ago.
