At Nihon Sumo Kyokai's regular health checkup conducted on Ferbruary
5, it was learned that yokozuna Wakanohana lost over 10 kg since the
start of Hatsu Basho in January.

The checkup started on February 1 at Kokugikan's Sumo clinic, and this
day on February 5, over 170 rikishis and gyojis from 10 heyas
including Futagoyama participated.

Wakanohana weighed in at 124.5 kg compared to his weight of 135 kg
before the Hatsu basho.  It is generally believed that his one month
long separation problem took a toll on him as he was under enormous
stress.
