[Rikishi News] Chiyotaikai

Sankei Sports Feb, 3, 1999
--------------------------

New Ozeki Chiyotaikai drew matches against the winner of
Hamanoshima/Gojoro on the first day and the winner of
Chiyotenzan/Dewaarashi on the seconday day of the "Nihon Ozumo
Tournament" with a total prize package of 30 million Yen to be held on
February 13 and 14 at Tokyo's Kokugikan.

If Chiyotenzan wins his match, it will be the first time the two
Kokonoe Beya young stablemates face each other in a public event. It
should be an eagerly awaited match pitting new ozeki against his
stablebrother rikishi who gained the double digit wins and Kanto-sho
on his first Makuuchi basho at just completed Hatsu basho.

For the last while Chiyotaikai was on demand so much that he has been
managing with only four or five hours sleep each day. He is also
battling a cold with fever. "It's not easy but it doesn't matter.
Yusho ? I only need to do my best," said Chiyotaikai.

But there is something bothering him. Some newspapers, weekly
magazines and TV shows are reporting on his "bad boy" days, quoting
liberally from his old "friends" in Ohita where he grew up. "Next
time I go back there, I have to talk to them. As now I am working
seriously."

At the NHK Charity Sumo held on February 2, he was beaten by
Wakanohana but he will be now aiming to earn 4 Million Yen by winning
the first and second day matches at the tournament.
