Re: Soroi-Bumi
Soroi-Bumi is a kind of Dohyo-Iri ceremony.
Before Juryo bouts start, there are Juryo Rikishi Dohyo-Iri.
Before Maku(no)uchi bouts start, there are Maku(no)uchi Rikishi Dohyo-Iri.
After that, there are Yokozuna Dohyo-Iri.
All of these have two reasons, one is for introducing the active rikishi of
the day, and the other is for keeping evil spirits under the ground and not
let them coming out.
Sanyaku Rikishi Soroi-Bumi has another meaning in addition to the both
mentioned above, but similar to the first meaning of introduction. It is to
show appreciation to both gods and the audiences for getting to the last
three matches without having too much problems in the basho. It is to show
off the best of the best of all active rikishi. And they are the formost
conclusion of the best bouts of the basho.
For keeping evil spirits, having three best rikishi doing Shiko will be the
most effective way to do exsorcing. And doing twice would be much more
effective, for sure.
