That is the usual time of announcing banzuke for Hatsu-basho. They try to
avoid the busy schedule of Nen-Matsu-Nen-Shi or
end-of-the-year/beginning-of-the-year hype. It's to give an extra time to
all sumo-related people. Business will be dead for at least 4 days,
new-year's eve and three days of the new year.
