Sumo world championships are under way

A big cheer of "give your best !"  to all members of the ML and their
relatives/friends etc. being in action in Tokyo at the 7th Sumo World
Championships, today and Sunday. The Asian games will keep down the reports
in the news, I fear.
114 athlets from 32 countries take part.

Kyodo news tells that Takahama and Binev from Bulgaria have won so far.

The International Sumo Federation (ISF) decided yesterday, that the 9th
Championships in the year 2000 will be held in Brasil, Sao Paolo.
In the 8th Championships next year in the eastern German town of Riesa,
women (shin-sumo) will take part for the first time - all for getting sumo
to the 2008 Olympics.

Also a World junior Championships event is planned for the 13-17 year olds
(four classes) in August next year in Tokyo .
