Konishiki name (corr)
Hi all!
Just a very quick note: I was doing some looking up yesterday and find that
the original user of the shikona 'Konishiki' was NOT in Takasago-beya, but
was a komusubi in Hatachiyama-beya (no connection with the new
Hatachiyama-beya started by ex-ozeki Hokutenyu). On retirement he became
Hatachiyama oyakata. Hokutenyu bought the myoseki from Aonosato, who is
now Tatsutagawa oyakata and in charge of the heya of that name.
So the shikona 'Konishiki Yasokichi' is not the property of the present
Takasago oyakata as such. I haven't so far discovered how the previous
Takasago was able to bestow the name upon Salevaa; there's a missing link
here.
But my main point remains; Sale was not the original bearer of the shikona
and, even though he greatly enhanced its prestige, he does not have a right
to use it. I would personally hope that the Kyokai is big about this,
because it would be the best name for him to be known by. We all use it as
a matter of course. More important, I can't imagine anyone else being given
the shikona. He has made it his.
