Not exactly, Greg. As I posted recently, the names of former famous rikishi
are considered the property of the heya they belonged to (not the Sumo
Kyokai as such, although it would be the Kyokai that would wave the big
stick). Salevaa Atisanoe is not the first man from Takasago-beya to bear
the name Konishiki, and now he has quit the Kyokai, he cannot revert to the
name without the express permission of the present Takasago oyakata.
Takasago has already indirectly given his opinion of the former ozeki by
passing over him and nominating Mitoizumi as his successor.
