Double birthday watch + personal
Hallooo!!
Today we have two birthdays: Both of the rikishi are kind of roly-poly
and cuddly, and they seem to be well liked as well. Juryo east 4 maime
Kushimaumi is 33 today, together with Maegashira East 5 (going on 12...)
Ganyu, who is 28. Kushimaumi was a Maegashira rikishi for quite a while,
till he dropped to Juryo after November 1997. He even had a Juryo yusho
as recently as two Bashos ago (March) but not enough for a ticket to
ride..I, for one, ( never understood what THAT meant..) do hope he gets
there before retirement sets in. He had a 7-8 record last basho, which
should drop him to around 6. I think Aki will be crucial for him, and
he better get his act together if he doesn't want to join Misugisato for
breakfast on November the 8th.. Ganyu, on the other hand, seems to be
here and there. He came up in March 1996, after breezing through Juryo
in 4 Bashos ( 9-6, 9-6, 8-7, 9-6 !!!).ever since it has been up and
down and all around, peaking at Maegashira 1 West in September 1997
,which ended disastrously as expected- with a 3-12, which is a record he
seems to embrace, having had it 3 (!!) times in the last 6 Bashos. Well
well well..

And on a personal note -today is Larry Paine (Sokitumi's) birthday as
well. I know we decided no private birthdays, but since it's a
legitimate post, why not wish someone who posts the daily Rikishi
records during Bashos a Happy birthday anyway??
