Shomen is the best, then Muko-jomen is the second best.  You don't see the
tachiai much of the time because the Gyoji is in the way, but once the
match gets going, you have basically the same view as the shomen.  The
nishi and higashigata (I think that is the correct term?), you loose the
traditional view, but you can see things more from the Rikishi's
perspective.  But Sumo is more of a Shomen viewing sport with most things
going either east or west so watching it from the east and west, you loose
the sense of lateral movement.

Of course once you get enough Sake and beer, who really cares if its
horizontal or vertical!
