[SUMO] admin: sumo archive, etc.
Sumoans:
The following is the message I received from Majordomo server which
operate sumo ML.
DON'T email any of the command to sumo@brooks.statgen.ncsu.edu, which
is the usual address for posting your comment and news to sumo ML.
The correct email address for this purpose IS
majordomo@brooks.statgen.ncsu.edu.
Majordomo is the name of popular mail list server software, and it would
be useful to remember that name and basic commands to use this server
software, since it is very common.
If you want to use sumo ML archive files, the first thing you want to do
is to send "index" command to Majordomo server to see what kind of files
available. Majordomo will send you a list of file names you could
download from the server, automatically. If you have a particular file
you want to download, you use "get" command to do so. All the process of
sending command and downloading files are done through email messages.
So, don't worry about FTP software. All you need to have is your regular
email software.
Since this sumo ML has existed for over 5 years, there are so many files
restored for your use. If I remember correctly, all posts are filed
under the name of the posted month and year. So, if you need a specific
record of a specific basho, you will find it. January is for
Hatsu-basho, March is for Maru-basho, May is for Natsu-basho, July is
for Nagoya-basho, September is for Aki-basho, and November is for
Kyushu-basho.
So, enjoy learning how to use Majordomo and if you have time download
any of the files to enjoy more about what we've been discussing on sumo
over the years.
By the way, I am NOT the one organizing and managing this list. I'm only
another (long-time) member of this ML.
Big thank you to Chris for managing this ML for so long. You are so
quiet but the most important person in this ML, IMHO.
