[Olympics] CBS documentary bit on sumo
I've been ignoring the Olympics (too busy) but my wife let's me know
whenever anything interesting comes on. They are showing as I watch
a bit about sumo. I'll let others add their commentary and simply
add my vote to the inevitable ones that I'm sure are to come of
annoyance with the poor fact checking on the
pronunciation/terminology (beya and doh-you).
Speaking of which, any other Bay Area list members note the
ever-annoying C.W. Nevius screw up in yet another sport for the San
Francisco Chronicle? There, we got to see dohy-iri. I wonder how he
thinks it's pronounced if that's what he did with the romanization .
. . Then again, the Chronicle itself has sloppy proofreaders anyway,
and it could be the misspelling is the fault of someone in S.F.
Back to CBS, there was also the inevitable focus on Akebono. To be
expected, I suppose (it is an American network trying to explain
things to an American audience that probably doesn't anything about
sumo beyond "they're fat," if that).
FWIW.
