Re: Fastest rises (was RE: Takanohana and humility
In my last post I had a few bits of bad info. Thanks to Andy Adams of Sumo
World (yes--he should know!), here are the corrections to my misinformation:
I said that I thought Musashimaru was the quickest from shin-Juryo to Ozeki
but--
>
>Akebono (15 basho) was two basho quicker than Musashimaru (17 basho)
>going from shin-Juryo to ozeki.
>
I further said that Musashimaru had to be closing in on the record for
consecutive kachi-koshi in Makuuchi. The actual numbers say he is two
years away--
>The record for consecutive kachi-koshi in Makunouchi is held by
>ex-yokozuna Kitanoumi at 50. Musashimaru has 38 at present.
Let me step out and make one more guess (since those two were
incorrect)--Musashimaru Must have the record for most kachi-koshi before
getting his first make-koshi in Makuuchi (my very hazy memory suggests that
the record was 36 so he would be two past that--but I'm probably incorrect
on that number too--it's been that kind of day for me :-).
Thanks again Andy for correcting me!
BTW, speaking of Andy and Sumo World, I wrote a letter to the editor that
was printed in Sumo World back in 1993 giving the address for this mailing
list (back when it was still hosted at USC). I know that at least one
member of this list joined from seeing that letter, and it's kind of cool
that Doreen along with Andy himself have come to our list for some
relaxation.
