RE: Takanohana and humility

... Taka's rise looked too effortless in the beginning

As an indication of this: Takanohana's first yusho (Jan 1992) was when
he was ranked Maegashira 2. In addition, he won all three of the sansho
prizes. (Actually, shukensho and kantosho both shared with Akebono ( at
komusubi) and ginosho shared with Wakanohana (then Wakahanada - ranked
Maegashira 1 - higher than Taka). That would have an interesting
Hoshitori.

In terms of "effortless rise" - I believe Konishiki, Tochiazuma, and one
other rikishi are tied as the fastest rise from sumo entrance to
Maegashira (13 basho). And doesn't Konishiki have one of the fastest
rises to Ozeki? And to continue the Konishiki tie-in - Taka's first
yusho was the basho between Konishiki's two yushos in 11/91 and 3/92
when the Konishiki's yokozuna promotion was discussed.
