Whew!!! Talk about off topic!!! the above reply could only come from a
person who made
no attempt whatsoever to get out and see the real Hawaii for 4 years.
Prefaced comment
by noting that I have been native Hawaiian my entire life. Pidgin is
something a little
more then just dialect. It is definitely NOT uneducated attempt at
English as the above ignorant commentary suggested. In fact it derives
from more then just English with strong influences of Portugese
(Portagee anyone?!) Japanese and dashes of Tagalog. Clearly a distinct
and separate language and spoken by educated as well as common folks in
the islands. You know da kine brah? Thought not.
There are many languages of Hawaii. There is no "The other language" as
it is truly a
melting pot. You might say Hawaii is the opposite of Japan in many
ways, yet the most
Japanese of any state.
I have seen Maru and Chad as well as Big Sal in various situations
outside of competition and have always found them to be gracious and
friendly. As far as the role model question what does one base such
concepts on?
