Once again, I think that Charles Beauchamp is right.  But he is also
wrong.  The discussion about Hinkaku and Konishiki and racism is about
as on topic as you can get.  Or, do we need to start
alt.culture.japan.sumo.hinkaku.xenophobic_yokozuna_promotion_committee?  

Where I disagree with Charles is whether Konishiki was good enough for
Yokozuna.  I think he was.  I also think (and this is pure "What if
Eleanor Roosevelt could fly?" material) that he would have been better
had he been promoted.  He would have lived up to the responsibilities of
the rank.  Konishiki was one of the classiest of rikishi.  He is what
kept me interested after Chiyo retired.
