I stand corrected....
....RJ is right, his knee injury did take the "zap" out of Akebono. I
still think he is weak mentally, and feel that he should go back to the
days of only tsuppari attacks, you don't touch his belt, 9 times out of 10
he wins!
I sent the HTML because I was asked to by someone on this mailing list,
when I signed my emails with my homepage address. Hassle? Filter it.
Konishiki made no infamous comments. I know the sumotori who said that
stuff to the NY Times, it was not Konishiki, but to protect this person, he
took the credit, period. Plus what was said was kind of true, IMHO. A lot
had to do with his size, and him not being Japanese. When Akebono was
promoted to yokozuna, there was a sigh of relief, yet a good number of
Japanese are against a foreign yokozuna. It is much more than just a sport.
I too have been told that sumo was a cermony done to thank the gods for a
good harvest.
Mawashi are not sold, to my knowledge. They are unroll and set outside to
air out and reused, over and over again. The cotton ones, worn in
practice, are actually washed.
Yeah Rob Hoey, maybe we can meet at the basho????
