RE: Mawashi's for sale online

Looked at the site, but was dumbstruck by the comment:

"It (Sumo) originated in very ancient times, when it was used as a
method of divination in harvest."

Honto desu ka?  I had always thought that the "original" sumo match was
between two gods to settle a war.  And that any alusions after that had
to do with honour and settling of differences.

Can anyone comments about how sumo can be used as a method of divination
for the harvest.  (I may have to watch more closely next time to find
the lucky sumo lottery numbers to play).
