Konishiki condition
I just returned from two weeks in Japan -- first trip back since
kindergarten -- and that's a long time ago. Alas the trip was business,
so my time was not my own. My plans to visit Ryogoku were dashed by
business demands, but I did tour the Nagoya Castle and see the site of
the July basho. I also toured Kyoto -- beautiful!
I read an article about our friend Konishiki's Nagoya hospital stay for
stomach ulcers (with more detail about his bodily functions than I
thought necessary). The article surmised that he would be demoted to
lower maegashira ranks, but illness would probably keep him from
competing in the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament. I'd love to see him in
Vancouver in June. Sadly, that's looking less and less likely. Has
anyone heard how the big guy's doing?
I bought a big box of sumo cards. It was great fun opening all the
packets (30), but buying the box does not assure you will get all the
cards. There are quite a few missing, including Tochiazuma, my favorite
young gun. :-(
I did get four winning contest cards out of the 30 packets, but I have
no idea what I won. I'll ask one of my company's Japanese liaison
engineers to read it for me.
