Re[2]: [SUMO] Konishiki

     Hi from Yokohama Japan,

From what I have seen in the Japanese media, the reason Konishiki did
not compete on the 14 and 15 day of the tournament was because of his
statement that he intended to retire and therefore was not"allowd" to
compete. As Abe-san says it was in the media that Konishiki was set
to meet Terao on Day 15. So, I agree Konishiki had planned to
compete, but was somewhat over ruled by tradition.

     As question concerning yuusho playoffs:

Is there a list/record of each rikishi's record in these playoffs? It
seems Takanonami has Takanohana's number for the playoffs.

     genki de!!!!

Since you forwarded the message you sent to me to sumo ML, I'm posting
this to sumo ML.

According to Yomiuri article,
http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/newsj/ie22ie21.htm
Konishiki was supposed to have a match against Terao on Senshuraku or
Day 15, because Konishiki was willing to be active through the entire
Kyushu-basho.

He decided to retire in the morning of Nov.22, and at that time, he was
totally committed to complete the basho through Day 15. So, Sumo
Kyokai's torikumi hensei iinkai set his torikumi with Terao for the last
day of Kyushu-basho. Then Sakaigawa Rijicho invited Takasago Oyakata to
discuss about Konishiki's retirement issue. There and then these two
decided Konishiki to retire immediately and not competing any more
matches in Kyushu-basho.

That was the way it was, according to Japanese media.

Or, do you know something Japanese media have not reported about
Konishiki's retirement?
