The national collegeate championship match was fought between last
year's "amateur yokozuna" Tamiya (Jr. Nichidai) and last year's "sudent
yokozuna" Saito (Sr. Nichidai).

Tamiya won his first "student yokozuna" as his 17th championship trophy
during  his three year career as a Nichidai student.

It was Nichidai's third consecutive "student yokozuna" title and their
15th overall championship tilte in 75 year history of national
collegeate championship games.
