Re: kore yori Sanyaku ???
"Kore-yori San-yaku" is the way Sumo Kyokai and traditional
sumo used for the very last three bouts of a tornament (hon-
basho). To be involved in one of koreyori-sanyaku bouts,
you don't need to be a yaku-rikishi. Only requirement is to be
the one in one of those bouts arranged by Sumo Kyokai. Even
if one of the bouts is not involve any yaku-rikishi, it is still
called as a part of koreyori-sanyaku.
The minimum requirement of Sanyaku is to have two ozeki,
two sekiwake and two komusubi. Sumo Kyokai could have
tornament without yokozuna as it was right before Akebono
was promoted to Yokozuna. If they have only the minimum
number of sanyaku (6), and if two of them got injured, they
will have only four yaku-rikishi (sanyaku). Even in this case,
they will call the very last three bouts of hon-basho as
koreyori-sanyaku. If the last two bouts are between true
yaku-rikishi, then the first of koreyori-sanyaku would be
between non-sanyaku rikishi.
It's just a tradition continued from pre-yokozuna era.
Even if the very last match is between true yokozuna, the
winner will be called "ozeki ni kanoo (kanau) Takanohana/Akebono".
Since, traditionally "san-yaku" (three executive titles) has
been Komusubi, Sekiwake, and Ozeki. If everything goes well,
the very last three matches of the basho would be starting
with komusubi against komusubi, sekiwake against sekiwake,
ozeki against ozeki. That is the reason of calling the winners
with "komusubi ni kanoo" (well suited for being komusubi),
"sekiwake ni kanoo" and "ozeki ni kanoo".
