Re: shikona

Since so many of us seem to be fessing up to our shikona derivations, I guess
I'll add mine. Please keep in mind that I have been a fan of sumo for years
in isolation. I know little Japanese beyond that needed to be polite in a
sushi bar. My shikona is Hananofuji. Due to a typing error on my first
entry in the Hoshitori contest I guess I’ll forever be known as Hannanofuji.
My favorite rikishi of all time is Chyonofuji. My current favorite is
Wakanohana. I figured if I combined hana and fuji, with the ubiquitous (no)
in-between it sounded pretty good. I did know that Hawaiians use hana to
mean nose so I thought it could also mean mountain nose. I sent an email to
Abe-san to ask if this name meant anything rude in Japanese. Since I didn't
get a response I figured it couldn't be that bad. I had been lurking for
about a month and knew he was the source. I love this list. It has given me
a sumo community with which to enjoy my favorite sport. Thanks to all the
regular contributors and those who run the contests. I was so far in the
jungle last tournament that I didn’t even get to enter.
