Speaking of lifespans, last night on the NHK english broadcast, Clyde
Newton mentioned that former yumitori-shiki performer Wakanoyama (i think
was his shikona) from Azumazeki-beya had died at the age of 26. Akebono was
friends with this man, who helped teach him Japanese; in fact after his
retirement the Yokozuna hired him as his driver and personal valet. Newton
said he died of some kind of stomach problem.

The current bow-twirler is from Futagoyama-beya, as it is the custom for
the ceremony to be performed by a makushita rikishi from the stable of a
yokozuna.
