Chiyonoyama-Chiyonofuji
Fukushima-cho, a small town about two hours from Hakodate in Hokkaido
is the birth place for two yokozuna, 41th yokozuna Chiyonoyama and
58th yokozuna Chiyonofuji. Yokozuna Chiyonoyama-Chiyonofuji Kinen-kan,
a sumo museum dedicated for the memory of Yokozuna CHiyonoyama &
Chiyonofuji will be open in April nest year, 1997. It will display some
of their kesho-mawashi and other memorabilia with a complete copy of
dohyo from Kokonoe-beya with specially designed shower and bath for
rikishi, so that Kokonoe-beya could use the site for their summer
camp. In addition, the town is planning to start a sumo class utilizing
the dohyo for local youngsters. This could be a "must" site for
Chiyonofuji fans.
