Guess-the-Banzuke Contest Kick-Off
For all the people new on the list I post the rules
and the template again.
The deadline is Monday morning (24th), but if
the banzuke isn't posted yet or even if, I may
accept it (but be suspicious :-)
It should be fun, not be too serious, so just
make a wild guess and mail it to me.

have fun ...

Guess the Banzuke game Rules
#--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Sumoists, THE RULES:
First of all, a reference is generated from the actual banzuke. With
no difference to Sanyaku and Maegahira, a simple ranking will be done
considering east and west positions. If we have the following Banzuke:
MAKUNOUCHI:
^^^^^^^^^^
Higashi Nishi
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Y - Takanohana [ 13 - 2 ] Y - Akebono [ 12 - 3 ]
O - Takanonami [ 11 - 4 ] O - Musashimaru [ 13 - 2 ]
O - Wakanohana [ 12 - 3 ]
S - Kaio [ 8 - 7 ] S - Kotonishiki [ ? - ? ]
K - Akinoshima [ 11 - 4 ] K - Musoyama [ ? - ? ]
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - Kotonowaka [ 5 - 10 ] 1 - Takatoriki [ 7 - 8 ]
2 - Tochinowaka [ 4 - 11 ] 2 - Terao [ 5 - 10 ]
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
15 - Wakashoyo [ 8 - 7 ] 15 - Takamisugi [ 8 - 7 ]
16 - Kotogaume [ 5 - 10 ]
-------------------------------------------------------------------
JURYO:

Higashi Nishi
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - Asanosho [ 8 - 7 ] 1 - Asahiyutaka [ 11 - 4 ]
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The reference would be:
1.) Takanohana
2.) Akebono
3.) Takanonami
...
9.) Musoyama
10.) Kotonowaka
...
39.) Takamisugi
40.) Kotogaume
41.) Asanosho
42.) Asahiyutaka
...
I do the same with the guessed Banzuke and will
calculate the absolute deviation for each rikishi
on the guessed banzuke. e.g.
Reference Banzuke Guessed Banzuke
----------------------------------------------------------------
M4: Kenko - Kushimaumi M4: Kushimaumi - Tomonohana
M5: Kotoinazuma - Tomonohana M5: Kotoinazuma - Kenko
----------------------------------------------------------------
you're score will be:
1 (Kushimaumi) + 2 (Tomonohana) + 0 (Kotoinazuma) + 3 (Kenko)
I think that's pretty straightforward and simple.
For those people, who would consider this too simple, I'll
include some bonus:
Changes in Yokozuna and Ozeki ranks are not considered,
since they are already known prior to the banzuke.
//---------------------------------------------------------------
For every correct Sekiwake/Komusubi: -2 points
if the position (east/west) is correct: -5 points
//---------------------------------------------------------------
For every Maegashira, if the position
(east/west) *and* rank are correct: -1 points
//---------------------------------------------------------------
If all sanyaku rikishi are guessed correctly,
disregarding their ranks: -3 points
//---------------------------------------------------------------
If all maegashira rikishi are guessed correctly,
disregarding their ranks: -3 points
//---------------------------------------------------------------
If all 'kaeri-makunouchi' rikishi,
coming from Juryo, are guessed correctly: -3 ponts
//---------------------------------------------------------------
I know it's quite redundant, but so what, it looks nicer and
more sophisticated ... At least to me ;-)
So even for all people like me, who don't know nothing
about banzuke-making, it's a good chance just to give it a try
and have fun.
I already wrote a script-file to make life easier for me
(and my company), please use the template below.
Did I miss something ?
As you can see, I allowed more than 2 Sekis/Komus and Maes.
If you think, they're not filled, just put some hyphens (-)
dots or spaces in there.
Take your time, probably you'll see some changes,
after all it's still an open standard (ISO)
Please use the template below, you can erase the dots
or leav'em I don't mind.
