I'm usually not all that flexible on something I really like, but after
reading the section above, I do believe you are correct.  The fact is, the
folks who are getting the high (and low) scores are those who deviate from
the above selection and get (in my opinion) lucky.  It would be far more of
a thinking game if we went with the option you suggested that I have
included.  I always try to get at least two rikishi from the lower half of
Maegashira [initially I was taking four, but I was also getting bad
results] to keep things interesting, but making us do this would keep all
of the other scores just as likely to drop and reward the thinkers.

Oh, and the rules would still hold with your 11 rikishi scenario if the
alternate is included as one of the rikishi under the guidelines you give.
