Just a follow-up to my previous comments.  The simple winning of
6 or more of your chosen rikishi's matches would not work under
the present system of choosing ANY rikishi.  Under a different
rules system, such as the one I suggested in an earlier e-mail
would allow such a system to work, I think.  Again, a system that
would require your choices as follows:
MAXIMUM of 1 Yokozuna
MAXIMUM of 1 Ozeki
MAXIMUM of 1 Sekiwake
MAXIMUM of 1 Komosubi
MAXIMUM of 3 rikishi in the top half of Maegashira
MINIMUM of 3 rikishi in the bottom half of Maegashira
would remove the 'duplicate' entries almost entirely and require
that all entrants do a little (a little?) more research.  I would
venture to say that the majority of your current entrants include
the following rikishi in one order or another:
TAKANOHANA
AKEBONO
WAKANOHANA
TAKANONAMI
MUSASHIMARU
MUSOYAMA
KAIO
Accordingly, real thought process is only required for your last
three choices and, most likely, they arbitrarily come out of the
Komosubi and top five Maegashira names.  Not much imagination, ne?

To go even further in LIMITING the choices of entrants, you might
use the following formula:
MAXIMUM of 3 Sanyaku rikishi
MAXIMUM of 4 rikishi in the top half of Maegashira
MINIMUM of 4 rikishi in the bottom half of Maegashira
Note:  I know that adds up to 11, but that simply means that an
entrant has to cut down one of his MAXIMUM choices by one.

Several other variations can be developed by increasing the
MINIMUM area even more.

Lastly, you could even RESTRICT the choices of any entrant based
on his previous rank, i.e.
OZEKI=
        MAXIMUM of 2 Sanyaku rikishi
        MAXIMUM of 3 rikishi in the top half of Maegashira
        MINIMUM of 5 rikishi in the bottom half of Maegashira
and M2=
        MAXIMUM of 3 Sanyaku rikishi
        MAXIMUM of 4 rikishi in the top half of Maegashira
        MINIMUM of 3 rikishi in the bottom half of Maegashira
and NEW ENTRANT
        MAXIMUM of 5 Sanyaku rikishi
        NO OTHER RESTRICTIONS
        Note:  This lets the newbees get off to a good start.

Please accept my comments and criticism in the manner in which it
is intended and that is to make the Hoshitori contest as enjoyable
as possible for the maximum number of players.  You aren't going to
make everybody happy anyway.

I truly love the sport of sumo and truly enjoy being a member of this
forum in my small way.  You, and others like you, provide a valuable
service to those of us that just seem to sit back and criticize.
