Seattle Area Sumo Social
Time for another gathering of Sumo fans in Seattle, set against the
backdrop of Akebono's comeback bid and the Sekiwake dogfight for promotion
to Ozeki.
At 7:00 pm on Monday 7/8, we'll have videotape of the action from shonichi.
As usual, our gathering will be held at:
Miyake Restaurant
2605 California Avenue S.W.
Seattle - tel. (206) 938-8515
The Miyake is a low to moderate priced family style Japanese restaurant. If
you spend $10 per person, you'll be very full. The owner and chef
(Miyake-san, a fellow sumo fan) is very supportive of our gatherings, and
is getting used to our Monday night invasions.
Directions: Miyake is at the corner of California Avenue and Admiral Way in
the Admiral district of West Seattle. From Interstate 5, take exit 163 and
follow to the West Seattle Freeway. Go west across the bridge, take the
third exit on your right (Admiral Way) and proceed up the hill. When you
crest the hill, go through one stoplight at the Jack-in-the-Box, then take
a left at the next. This is California Avenue. Immediately to your right
you'll see a restaurant with red decorations that say "Miyake" and a white
clapboard sign saying "Sushi" on the sidewalk. There is limited parking
behind the establishment, and free parking on the streets all about. The
area is well lit and accessible. If you are using public transportation,
Metro Transit routes 56 and 55 arrive within 60 feet of the door from First
Avenue downtown. These busses, as well as route 37, serve the Miyake from
the West Seattle Transit Center. The service frequency is no less than four
per hour.
Hope to see you all there! Please contact me if you need more info.
