Taiho also has an ordinary stock, presently loaned out, which will 
become Takatoriki's, when Takato retires. Once Taiho retires (or 
dies) then the stable will become his.

Going back to Taiho relinquishing his riji status.  It is well known 
that he is ill.  His mobility is very poor - for example at 
intai-zumo in the kokugikan he needs help to step down from the dohyo 
after taking a snip.

An active rikishi who is eligible can buy the rights to a stock, but 
usually loans them out to a former rikishi until he is ready to 
retire.  I believe the active rikishi actually owns the stock, but he 
cannot take the title or participate as an oyakata until he retires.  
The only active rikishi to have his own stable that I know of is 
Futabayama, during/just after the war.  At one point there was also a 
separate referees stable as well, but that has now dissappeared.
