Wakanohana's status next basho

OK, someone suggested that Waka may not be able to fight next basho either.
I certainly don't have enough info to verify if that makes sense, but it
brings up an interesting question.  Since this was an off-dohyo injury, if
he misses the next basho as well will he return as a sekiwake in the
following basho?  What if, God forbid, he doesn't make it to that basho and
is dropped into the Maegashira ranks?  Does he then have to post three
consecutive good basho to regain his Ozeki rank?

Of course, I hope he can come back for the next basho but it makes for some
interesting possibilities.
