Hatsu Basho: Day 4

With 91 cm of snow in Sapporo, the SDF has mobilized 200 members
to clear the stuff off the roads, delaying their assistance for
the coming Snow Festival. Here in Hachinohe, we've gotten zero
out of all these latest storms. :-)

Anyhow, on to the item at hand, SUMO!!

Winners: Kimarite: Losers:

Tamakasuga (4-0) oshidashi Kyokudozan (3-1)
Higonoumi (3-1) oshidashi Kirishima (1-3)
Mainoumi (2-2) shitatenage Asanowaka (1-3)

Oginishiki (3-1) okuridashi Terao (2-2)
Kasugafuji (2-2) oshitaoshi Asanosho (2-2)
Kenko (3-1) uwatenage Daishoho (1-3)
Konishiki (3-1) yorikiri Kotobeppu (1-3)
Asahiyutaka (3-1) yorikiri Tochinowaka (1-3)
Kotonowaka (1-3) yorikiri Kitakachidoki (2-2)
Tosanoumi (2-2) okuridashi Akinoshima (2-2)
Takatoriki (4-0) oshidashi Kaio (3-1)
Musoyama (2-2) yorikiri Kotonishiki (1-3)
Takanonami (4-0) yorikiri Mitoizumi (2-2)
Minatofuji (1-3) fusensho Wakanohana (0-4)
Musashimaru (3-1) oshidashi Misugisato (1-3)
Takanohana (4-0) oshidashi Kotoinazuma (0-4)

Takanonami went for a henka again :-(, but Mitoizumi nearly came
back at the edge to twist out the Ozeki. Good fun between Moose
and Kotonishiki, with Koto seemingly headed way down into the
Maegashira ranks in Osaka. Musashimaru sticks with the tsuppari
as his sole technique this basho; he won, but again did not look
as dominant as he did in the past. Best bout today: a rousing
fight between Takatoriki and Kaio. Kaio had Takatoriki on the
ropes a couple times, but was too slow to drive home the kill and
Taka slipped away to come back and push out the Sekiwake. With a
lower-ranked man to fight today, Tosanoumi won easily in his first
shot against veteran Akinoshima, slapping him down at first and
then turning him around and pushing him out from behind. The goofy
D. Wiggins noted today that Tosanoumi can squeeze and apple hard
enough to make juice of it with his right hand. FWIW.

Nokotta Nokotta!!

Totoro
