Sumo books & mags

Carl -

I noticed no one ever posted an answer to your request for info on sumo
books and/or mags in English to the list, and I thought there might be
some others interested in the same things. Here's the info on the material
that I have:

BOOKS

"Sumo: A Pocket Guide" by Walter Long (1989; Chas E Tuttle Co)
		ISBN 0-8048-1594-1
Lots of nice drawings of kimarite (throws and moves).

"The Joy of Sumo: A Fan's Notes" by David Benjamin (1992; Tuttle)
		ISBN 0-8048-1679-4
True sumo enthusiasts are sometimes offended by the way the
author pokes fun at the sport and the rikishi, but I thought it
was really funny. I read this one just as I was beginning to
become interested in watching the sport and it helped me become a
	more enthusiastic viewer. :-)

"Sumo Showdown: The Hawaiian Challenge" (1992; Tuttle)
		ISBN 0-8048-1895-9
Lots of great action pics of Takamiyama (now Azumazeki Oyakata),
Konishiki, Akebono, Musashimaru, and even the Hanada brothers!

"Grand Sumo: The Living Sport and Tradition" by Lora Sharnoff
	(1993; Weatherhill, Inc.)
		ISBN 0-8348-0283-X
	Lots of good stats.

"Sumo Watching" translated by Deborah Iwabuchi (Dec 1993; Yohan
	Publications, Inc)
		ISBN 4-89684-236-7
Good info with some good humor thrown in as well!

"Sumo: A Fan's Guide" by Mark Schilling (May 1994; The Japan Times, Ltd)
		ISBN 4-7890-0725-1
Includes heya (stable) names and addresses as well as great
	pics by Lynn Matsuoka.

MAGS
