Aki Basho Hoshitori!!

Below are the rules and explanations.

***Entries (one per person) due to me by September 11th, the Saturday
before the beginning of the Aki Basho.

As Ian is going to use his perl script to keep scores for daily posting, please
send a copy of your entry to him. Using "cc: " is easiest. I'll be keeping up
my own backup for the basho as well, so make sure both of us get copies. Send
Ian's copy to:

1) YOUR ENTRY MAY INCLUDE ANYONE FROM YOKOZUNA THROUGH MAEGASHIRA 16.
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Pick ANY 10 makuuchi rikishi that you think will do well. They must be
in order, as the top guy gets 10 points for each win, the next man will
get 9 points, and so on. The winner is the one whose rikishi total
the highest number of points at the end, including the extra bonus
points listed in #5 below. For the higher point levels, try to pick
the rikishi who should get 10 or more wins, as they will boost your
total the most, obviously. Some of the Maegashira who really sucked
in the prior basho and dropped way down will also be likely to get a
decent record this time, and are often good picks. For the point
levels of around 1-4 points, you can take shots at rikishi who may be
overdue for the occasional 10-11 win basho. Be objective, and don't
pick just the ones you like the most.

***Please use the form that's included at the end of the message, if possible.
***You can type your entries into it, cut and paste and it's done!

2) In the event of one rikishi leaving the basho, include a substitute
sumotori. The sub will assume the same point level for all torikumi
on days when the injured/sick rikishi is not called by the yobidashi.
The injured rikishi IS responsible for his loss by fusensho (forfeit),
though, and the sub cannot replace him on that day. If more than one
rikishi pulls out, the substitute will count only for the first to exit.
If a rikishi goes out and then returns, the sub's performance will
still count for the days after fusensho and up until the return
   of the main rikishi.

3) As a tie-breaker, pick the time of day (or night) that I will arrive
back at my house in Hachinohe this Friday, the 8th. The only clue is
that my flight from Seattle is scheduled to arrive in Narita at 4:35 PM
on Thursday, September 7. Please indicate the time via AM/PM or in
   24-hour notation.

4) Make up a shikona (sumo name) to use as your title, but keep the name
length to a maximum of 13 characters, please!! Results will be posted
   by shikona.

5) Extra points:

*********Sekiwake and below can get bonus points from all 5 categories *********
*********Ozeki and above can get extra points only from d and e. *********
         ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^
        a. Triple points for kin-boshi (Example: if a rikishi should
get 5 points, he would get 15 for beating Akebono)

        b. Double points for gin-boshi (beating an Ozeki)

        c. 10 points for any of the 3 Sansho prizes. This is only for
           Sekiwake and below.

**NOTE** This area is not quite in line with sumo realities, but
hoshitori rules have Sekiwake and below eligible for
kin/gin-boshi. Just to clarify a bit...

**NOTE 2** Only Sekiwake and below can get these bonus points from
a, b and c, but you can use any makuuchi rikishi in your
list, from Yokozuna down to Maegashira 16.

** All rikishi in your list are eligible for the points below
          ** in d. and e.!!

        d. If the Yusho winner is in your list, he will get triple points
for bagging the Emperor's Cup. Thus if his normal point score
is 8, he would get an extra 24 points for the yusho, on top of
the regular points he got for his bouts.

        e. Each rikishi on your list will get an extra 10 points for kachikoshi,
but will lose 10 points for makekoshi. This will be a one-time
addition/subtraction at the time of his 8th win/loss. If he is 15-0
or 8-7, he gets just 10 points, and if he is 7-8 or 0-15, he loses
           just 10 points.

6) Game fees:  20 Sumo bucks  ;->

7) Winner's (highest point total) prize: Seeing that the weather is turning
cooler, it's time for the nabe to make its comeback. So, let's make up
a big steaming pot of ishikari-nabe, which includes lots of salmon, udon
noodles, potatoes and negi onions. Together with some warm sake, it's
   a great autumn feast!

8) For the second-place finisher, one of our dear members has been so kind
as to donate a real banzuke. When the smoke clears at the end of the
basho, he'll mail it out to this winner.

8) One entry per person, e-mailed to me by September 11 (Saturday).

9) Claiming your prizes: You are welcome to your prize, but you gotta
come to my house to get it. I can pick you up at Hachinohe-eki,
which is on the Tohoku-sen, about 75 minutes north from Morioka,
which is the end of the Tohoku Shinkansen. You can stay at my house
since we have an extra room. Hopefully the kids will let you sleep!

Any further questions, comments and nice things can be e-mailed to
me directly [riley@hachi.hi-tech.ac.jp].

Good luck everyone!!
