Re: Promotion to Ozeki?

There are no written criteria, other than good record through
most recent three basho and only Sekiwake will be considerd
as a candidate for Ozeki promotion.

Base on the past example, it is almost impossible to be promoted
to ozeki without having a total 30 wins or average 10 wins.
I don't think 30 wins garantee the promotion, though. But if
a sekiwake has been in sanyaku for three basho and win at least
10 wins each basho with total 33 wins, he should be promoted
to ozeki.

I think there was at least one case of ozeki promotion that a
sekiwake with only 29 wins promoted to ozeki. If my memory
is correct, I think it was Kitanofuji. On the other hand, Hasegawa
won more wins and even after yusho, he was not promoted to
ozeki. Kitanofuji was from most influential Dewanoumi-beya,
whereas Hasegawa was from then small Sadogatake-beya.
