my future (Re: appology) - somewhat sumo related
Dear all sumo enthusiasts:
(If you are sick and tired of my posts, I'd like to remind you that you
have rights to
kill this file, right now.) Also, before you read too far, I would like to
appologize, in
advance for yet another memory consumption of your computer and your time.
(This is truely my voluntary post as the previous "appology" post.)
To make it clear further, I really appreciated and enjoyed Kawika's insider
report, and
Shari/Tito's "today's selected matches" report. I could not imagine I could
do the same
even if I live in Tokyo area. If Kawika left sumo list because of my
misbehavior, I
appologize to him. (His friend suspected that I caused his leaving of this
list.) If any of
you want to express your appreciation to him, I suggest you to send him a
personal note.
He may keep you updated with his personal insider report, even if he won't
be back to
sumo list. (I also appologize to the member of this group who miss Kawika
report, if
my behavior caused his retirement from this list.)
I think, Kawika was like a reporter for a Sports Newspaper, and I see Shari
and Tito's
post similar to a live coverage of sumo over radio. Totoro and Robert's
roles are sumo
corner in a international sports news show. (If I did not include you in
here, please
forgive me.)
I consider my role here as a retired long-time sumo reporter, or a
librarian at Sumo
Museum. These are totally different roles. As any retired reporter, I tend
to show off
my old-day memory, and I think it is annoying, sometimes, for some people,
particularly for those who are interested in mostly win-loss record of
current basho.
They are like people in Kokugikan. I am like Mr. Hanada (former Futagoyama
Rijicho and
former Yokozuna Wakanohana-I) who is a general manager of Sumo Museum. Needless
to say, I don't have any true experience in wearing real mawashi, unlike Kawika.
In real life, no professional sumo reporters nor sumo announcers are former
sekitori
or even rikishi. Only TV's sumo programs, and some other media hire former
rikishi as
part-time commentators, reporters, and guests. Most of sumo books are written by
the people who do not have any experience as rikishi.
So I don't regret my role. Although in fact, I envy people in Japan in some
degree,
because they have in better position to contact with more sumo information.
I don't
particularly envy people in Japan who have access to a live sumo coverage,
or envy
them strong enough to try to kick those people out of this sumo group. I
could not
imagine their interpretation of my "misbehavirs". But again, if that is
because my
poor behaviors of the past, I could only say "I'm sorry for causing the
misunderstanding and miscommunication between us." Even if I live in Japan
now, I
would not have any time watching live coverage anyways. I like being in the
role of
"retired reporter", actually. But I am not the type of being a cult leader.
Not another
Shoko Asahara of Aum Sumo Kyo. :-)
A person saw me as "a potential sumo guru" (this is not the person's direct
quote, by
the way) and the person think there are followers and worshippers who were
brainwashed by me. (This is also my personal and rather liberal
interpretation of
the warning I received from the person.) I don't know if that is true or
not. I hope not.
But if there are such people exist in sumo list, I feel responsible for them.
If you are one of this list
A. worshipper
B. follower
C. borderline
D. potential A, B, or C
E. not so sure but want to keep a personal touch with me
F. not at all but want to keep a personal touch with me
please contact me.
I will share my future (as a semi-retired sumo commentator) plan with you.
Also, if you don't feel free to criticize my "misbehavior" because of my
"authoritarian/dominating" act, and because of me as a Japanese, I would
like to know
for my future improvement. I hope you are free enough to tell me the truth
in private.
Thank you for reading my "somewhat sumo-related" post.

P.S. Regarding this post, please contact me directly and personally at
abe@kaleida.com.
Please don't ever bother the sumo list for this particular post. Also, I
will try to keep
my act streight, so that I won't need to write another "appology" post,
particularly a
long one.

Imagine, all the people living for today...no countries to kill or die for...
living life in peace...no possessions...sharing all the world...
You may say I am a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.
I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will live as one. (John Lennon)
