<chat> I Support Shari

To All:

The Shari Thread is the second incident since the Kawika/Totoro Dialog. As
a member of this list since January, I would like to voice my opinion
regarding the Shari Thread. We lost Kawika and I missed his posts. I think
the network etiquette is very important for all of us to follow diligently.
For otherwise, we would start losing valuable members.

Shari has made a logical argument, i.e. let's keep the topics related to
the list and let's not digress too much. She has made the point, and if we,
as a group, agree with her then we follow her suggestion. If, on the other
hand, we disagree with her, then we should say so and why we disagree with
her. There's no reason (or excuse) to critize her for presenting her point.
Her point is valid, and even if it was not, she's definitely not attacking
anybody. So I think the subsequent posts after her initial post were very
unfair to her.

As to her point, I somewhat disagree with her because the news flash on
virus is relevant to any computer mail list including ours. The topic may
not be relevant to the content (sumo) of this list, but very relevant to
the operational aspect of this list because we all use computers. So I
think Masumiriki did a right thing and no apology post was necessary from
him, in my opinion. I also use Mac (I will not present my opinion about Mac
and PC here for an obvious reason. 8-) ) and the moment I saw "PKZIP," I
trashed the mail. I don't mind reading such news flash. All I do is trash
it, if it's not relevant to me. However, I do not particularly care to see
any major thread developed from a non-sumo related news flash post. How
would we feel if we start seeing posts after posts of virus reports? And I
think this is what concerns Shari most and many others in this list. I
believe the previously suggested solution of using private email as
appropriate after the initial non-sumo related post is a good one.

Thank you for listening (reading?).

Tom
