Re: Another flame war?
Shari & Toto and others:
I've never intentionally upset someone, at least through sumo list.
I really hope that everyone keep calm and avoid another "flame war"
in this list.

Shari, please think about the whole thing again. Please check my original
post, and your reaction. First, I want you to read the subject. I did not
tell you, but like you, I am not a PC user but Mac user, if you care.
You are absolutely right, that this is "sumo" list. No other. Also, this
list is only for computer users, not for Mac user only, or PC user only
or UNIX user only group.
There is also a basic netiquette. If you know the thread is not for your
interest, don't bother opening the thread. That will avoid any extra
trafic. If you noticed, I clearly stated that it is a virus alert and
only for PC users. You said you are Mac user, and this thread is not any
interest of Mac users. You are absolutely right with this comment, again.
But you did not need to open this thread, in first place.
You stated above that I pretended the virus alert post as some sort of
community service. I can tell you that I did not "pretend" but I truely
thought it needed to be delivered to the "concerned" people as soon as
possible, without bothering too many people in this group. When I have
that virus information and I had a chance to let people in this group
know, but if they were victimized by this virus, because I did not
share the information, I feel much worse than being attacked by Shari.
That is fore sure.
I don't remember if you were with us when Earthquake hit Kobe area.
All of us worried about the safety of Robert's life, and shared
information. No one complained about these posts. No one. It was not
sumo-related at all. At least, some of us feel this sumo list is a
virtual community. People share the love of sumo, not only the win-loss
record of each basho. In the past, some people asked to have a record-
only group. This is not such sumo list, I don't think, and I don't want
to have.
It is true that in general this is truely "sumo" group, and we should
try to keep it that way as much as possible. But if your PC or Mac
is attacked by virus and could not keep it alive, you cannot access
to this group, either. Even if I have access to that virus informatio
and prevented the disaster, if everyone else did not know and could
not access sumo group, this group is dead, even if Shari and Toto
are alive and well.
We want to beat the pace of virus spread. The only way to beat the
virus is to spread the alert new faster than virus itself. Even if
it came to you right in the middle of your important work, not
many people get upset by virus alert, if it is real.
Unfortunately, I don't have good way to not to send the Mac or PC
virus alert to Shari and Tito, when I share the alert with most of'
the member of sumo list, except writing it in the subject line.
Again, I am not pretending to be a savier or personal attacker or
any thing. Just want you to be "reasonable" and "logical" and sometime
"flexible" to avoid "flame war" in addition to "do not open a thread,
if it is clearly something you don't want to read."
