Another flame war?
The last one was Tom, so I refer to him:
>I'd like to thank Masumiriki for his early alert to the PKUNZIP
>virus. I passed the word to our systems people, and they were certainly
>appreciative. This is evidently a genuine virus, and worthy of respect
>from all in the computer community.
>> >knowing that information and getting it quickly is
>> >important to me. Thank you for posting that information Mr. Abe.
>>
>> The point is, THIS IS A SUMO MAILING LIST.
>>
>> I can't believe you're defending a post about a computer virus on a sumo
>> list but I have a feeling you won't be the last one. Reasonable, related
>> drift is expected. Off-topic messages are a waste of everyone's time.
>Abe Sensei is a true member of the Budo family, and as such takes his Sumo
>seriously, and his concern for community safety SERIOUSLY. My colleages
>and I were very much helped by Abe Sensei's QUICK ALERT on everyone's behalf.
>I can't believe anyone can possibly take offense at this helpful and
>loving act of support for all Sumo friends on the net.
>Thank you, Abe Sensei, for your wonderful deed, and please do not
>hesitate to continue to do every good deed your heart commands you to do.
>Please never worry about petty and small-minded persons who cannot take
>kindly actions at face value and let it go at that.... or who expect
>that Sumo will not inform and support the other dimensions of life.
I beg for mercy since I can't see the sumo list fall apart about such fights
and I enjoy b o t h Abe-san's and Shari's posts. If I remember right it was
you Shari, who tried to prevent the Totoro-Kawika war that cost us David Meisen-
zahl's contributions. In this instance I also like Totoro's contributions and
I had fun reading Kawika's. So I think your remark about Abe-san's virus posting
was also somewhat hard (and to fall back to one of the Easterner-Westerner
stereotypes it may feel even harder for a Japanese) although I agree in
principle with your opinion that there are other places to find out about virus
information and that these should be used.
Tom shot back with even more firepower ("petty and small-minded persons", I
beg you!- not even with a smiley attached). It's pretty obvious what will happen
if all of you don't try to keep peace between basho. I know it's a hard and
boring time ;-), but IMHO flame wars are not the appropriate thing to fill the
gap.
So please excuse me for my long mail which is also technically off-topic :-)
And no worry I can stand flames, but if possible keep them off the list and
send them directly to my private address (which doesn't mean that I would
mind disagreeing opinions to this post on the list).
