forwarded message

To all,

I've been to Canada for a week, and found a couple of messages that MajorDomo
wouldn't let through. They may be a bit stale, but I'll send them on now.

Here's the first.

Chris

Subject: Plea for Juryo, other notes

Hi all,

I've been keeping silent on this since Rob made repeated pleas for help at
the beginning of the basho and no one offered any, but it really would be
nice to find out what's going on in Juryo. If you look at my sumo pages,
you see that the Juryo results are pretty much blank. It sure would be
nice if someone could help Rob out. He's done an admirable job but I get
the feeling it has been rather thankless for him. I, for one, greatly
appreciated his efforts and hope that others can step up to fill in some of
the blanks.

On to other subjects: My prediction of Kenko for Yusho ... DAMN YOU
TAKANONAMI! Made me look silly didn't he :-(

I received the Nagoya Basho issue of "Subtitles" in the mail yesterday
thanks to one of you good souls. On page 2 is an article by Kaminishiki
(one of our list members as well as big on the CIS sumo forum I
understand). I truly hope that the corresponding sketch on that page is
not of Kaminishiki ;-) (The editorial note says that Kaminishiki defies
any "narrow" theory ;-)).

Anyway, there were two things in the newsletter I thought I would point out
to the list. Apparently Sentoryu (and probably other sumo wrestlers as
well) feels that the fans at home don't know and/or care who he is. A card
is in the works from the "Sumo Society International" to assure Sentoryu
that he is appreciated, but I thought maybe folks on this list might take
some interest in writing to their favorite rikishi. (I wrote to Akebono
once but received no reply. I think maybe he took exception with my advice
that he should concentrate on losing weight or he would end up like
Konishiki ;-)

The second item is an Inaugural Gaijin Sumo Fan Demographic Survey being
conducted by Kaminishiki. Since he is on the mailing list, I am suggesting
that he post his survey to the list.

BTW, for those unaware, Kaminishiki (god brocade?) is Dr. Greg Wheeler.

Later,

Richard Webb
