I don't remember exactly but I think Asahifuji won two consective yushos in 
Natsu and Nagoya basho in 1990. There was a playoff in one of them but
Asahifuji beat Chiyonofuji and made it to yokozuna. (To be precise, I need
to check my collection of 'Ozumo digest' video:-) 
Why did Chiyo need money? Well, Shukan Post, which has been always bashing 
Chiyonofuji, said he is very greed. Honor? He got honor. He got Kokumin-
eiyoshou. No one knows what exactly is going on behind the scene. 

That's all the report said, and I don't know if it's true or not.
Sorry if it offends some Chiyonofuji fans.
