List mail, etc.

I've followed several threads lately without responding much. This is
partly due to time constraints (we just started the spring term here) and
also to see where these threads would lead.

1. The Dave Wiggins scene. This one generated the most mail I think. I
will admit that I deleted a lot of these without even looking, as it came
to be rather repetitive. However, it was sumo-ese.

2. Sakura and beer. This one had really only a few posts, and they were
pretty short ones at that, as I recall. This may not be totally connected
to sumo specifically, but I've never felt that one must post _only_ within
some strict guidelines, and this is generally accepted "netiquette."

3. The postings about non-sumo postings. This was fairly substantial,
which never ceases to amaze me. Whenever someone on a list puts out
this kind of post, it always generates a flood of replies, ALL of which
have nothing to do with the list's main concept. Rather self-defeating,
is it not?

What I want to say is, "Don't worry, be happy." This is a voluntary public
forum for those who wish to join. Let's make it fun, not just work. One
member suggested creating a separate list for only the results. Do you
see what the "result" of this is? I sure do. It means that people will be
wanting me, Tito, Robert, Steve and the others to post to both of these
lists. Also there will be responses intended for one list which will go
inadvertantly to the other, etc. etc. etc. You catch my drift.

My feeling is (and I've been with this group for almost 2 years now) is
that these are some of my best friends, even though I've never met most
of them. I enjoy the social interaction of friendly lists like this very
much, maybe more so due to my location (a long way from nowhere). If
something doesn't interest me, it's easily enough deleted.

Chris has been very helpful in creating a digest form for those who don't
want the volume. I think that is sufficient. Let's enjoy our friendship
and sumo together! No problems, right?!?!

Yoroshiku onegai itashimasu.

Sore ja...
