comments on "Sports Dramatic '94"

Since it seems like I received the last request, I thought you might have
fun reading some comments on this video tape. (I post these without any
approvals by any of them, and without any identification. I hope you don't
mind.)

Such comments give me an extra energy to contribute to this group.

I got the tape today and it's great! Thanks so much for your time and
effort! I can't wait to share it with my fellow sumo enthusiasts!

I received the tape over the weekend. With great anticipation, I must say that
it lived up to your description.....a great tape of Takanohana's rise to
Yokozuna. Definitely a must for any real sumo fan. I've followed sumo since I
was a kid, so the parts showing former rikishi Takanohana I, Kitanofuji, and
Chiyonofuji were especially enjoyable. I really hadn't been following sumo
that closely since the retirement of Chiyonofuji. Now that Takanohana II has
reached Yokozuna, I am excited about it again. I also enjoyed the segment
showing the leaping ability of Kyokudozan; maybe he wanted to be a gymnast
before he became a rikishi. Also impressed by the very high quality of the
tape as well.
Domo arigato gozaimasu.

Thank you so much for sending the "Sports Dramatic '94 Ozumo" tape!
I invited a fellow sumo enthusiast over yesterday to watch it with me.
It was great to finally see the action we had been reading about in
the email list, including Kyokudozan's incredible leap-frog move,
and the great Akebono-Takanohana bout. The pictures of Takanohana
as a child and young man were also particularly fun to see.

We also used the tape to improve our understanding of the kimarite.
After each bout, I would pause the tape and ask my friend which kimarite
was used. Then I would check his answer against the kimarite listed in
the email you sent which described the contents of the tape.

Anyway, thank you again for your time and effort.

The video you dubbed arrived over the weekend, and we watched it the other
night - all I can say is Makoto arigatou gozaimasu! It is great. With my
wife to help on the translation of the interviews, I can even understand it all.

Just to let you know the tape arrived yesterday, and my
wife and I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED it last night!! We are sharing it
with Sumo-worshipping friends here in Seattle, too....! Thank you,
thank you, thank you so much!

It's GORGEOUS! My favorite scene is Konishiki with the little boy...
very beautiful. My next favorite scene is all the people in the pouring
rain... and of course AT LAST we got to really see Kyokudozan's truly
awesome leap over Asanowaka....! Whew!!

Again, many thanks!

I just got home last night from a one week vacation and found the
sumo video in the mailbox. Of course i watched it before even unpacking.
While the Japanese does more than slow me down a little, what i do under-
stand makes it a great video. Thanks so much for offering to make it
available!

I recieved the sumo review video today and enjoyed it very much.
I do not speak Japanese and was helped very much by the summary you posted
to the sumo list.

I played the tape last night for the first time. My wife also watched.
It was her first exposure to sumo and she really enjoyed it.

My only personal exposure to Sumo was a day during the Sept 1992
basho in Tokyo. Takanohana (Takahanada then) seemed quite a bit
lighter then, but he won the basho. His match with Akebono in November
1994 was a rite of passage.

Thanks again,
