Takatoriki's Wife?

I have been listening in on this group for a while.  There is
a small number of sumo fans here at Los Alamos National Lab.
We have one colleague whose wife is Japanese.  Her sister sends
us video tapes of the tournaments, which we then pass around.
This brings me to a question.  My Friend's wife says that
during the New Year's tournament that it was announced that the
wife of Takatoriki was killed in the Kobe earthquake.  Since her
hearing is not perfect, it is possible that she misunderstood.
I have not seen anything posted on this.  Has anyone else
heard this?  It would seem to me that this would be a pretty
big news item.  Thanks.
