the book _The Essential Guide to Sumo_ by Dorothea M. Buckingham 
contains an explanation for how to tie a mawashi, complete with 
pictures of some of the steps.  so even though masumi abe's 
description was excellent, the pictures still might help.  
incidentally, i've found the book to be excellent; I'VE certainly 
learned a lot from it.  perhaps it's best for relative novices.
