A part of current compensation plan reflects the same idea. "Houshou-kin"
is payed to sekitori every basho and it is based on the win-loss difference
of kachikoshi. From Jonokuchi starts with 3 yen, and each of kachikoshi
numbers are caluculated as 0.5 yen base kyuukin. Only sekitori will receive
2,500 time of the base kyuukin every basho as his houshou-kin. There are
minimum base kyuukin for each sekitori rank. Each of the new sekitori of
the rank will receive at least:

Yokozuna 150 yen
Ozeki 100 yen
Makuuchi 60 yen
Juryo 40 yen

In addition:
Kimboshi 10 yen
Yusho with one or more losses 30 yen
Zensho yusho with 15-0 record 50 yen

2,500 times of the base kyuukin will be payed to the sekitori every basho
until he retires.

Kachikoshi is also called "kyuukin naoshi" which means to rewrite one's kyuukin.
When 8th win is on stake, the match is called "kyuukin naoshi no ichiban",
a match to rewrite one's kyuukin. From 8th win on, each win is worth 0.5
yen for base kyuukin. For Waka/Taka, if they will keep playing sumo for 8
more years, one more win means 60,000 yen (0.5 yen x 2,500 x 6 basho x 8
years makes 60,000 yen).

Each kensho is worth 60,000 yen. I am sure that the winner of each
Waka/Taka match will receive at least 20 kensho-kin.

And yusho rikishi will receive 5,000,000 yen.

Do you think a winning brother (with a wife) will share all these rewards
with his brother? He needs to pay the taxes for these rewards, also.

A win is also crucial for being promoted to yokozuna. Yokozuna earns a lot
more than ozeki.

M&A and inheritance are very common in sumo community. When Hanakago
Oyakata (Yokozuna Wajima) was forced to resign from oyakata,
Hanaregoma-beya received all rikishi from the former Hanakago-beya. When
previous Nishonoseki Oyakata (Ozeki Saganohana) died, then Maegashira Kongo
get engaged with a daughter of Nishonoseki Oyakata and immediately retired
from sekitori and inherited Nishonoseki-beya. Kongo had won yusho once and
was still in 20's. Dewanoumi-beya used to be owned by Dewanoumi fan club
type of organization when Musashigawa Oyakata became a Rijicho of Sumo
Kyokai. When Yokozuna Sadanoyama announced the engagement with a daughter
of Musashiyama Oyakata, people founded out that the ownership was
transfered from the fan club to Musashiyama Rijicho. Kokonoe Oyakata
(Yokozuna Chiyonoyama) was a known heir apparent of Dewanoumi-beya but
since Sadanoyama became the son in law of the owner of Dewanoumi-beya,
Kokonoe Oyakata decided to start his own heya with Kitanofuji. After a big
argument, Musasshiyama Rijicho agreed to allow Kokonoe Oyakata to start a
heya, but Kokonoe was kicked out of Dewanoumi Ichimon and went to Takasago
Ichimon.
